West Point House is a 40-bed guest house that offers weekly rental to workers in Barrow and Walney Island. In 2014, the owners had a 12kW solar pv system installed by Lakes Renewables Ltd and they now find their electricity bills have dropped significantly, along with gains from the feed-in tariff. When the solar panels produce more electric than the building needs it wirelessly switches on the electric immersion heater to the hot water supply, resulting in a significant reduction (70%) of gas used to heat the water over the summer months. The owners have also undertaken their own solar-thermal installation supplying a hot-water cylinder. In addition, energy efficient lighting is used throughout and successful experiments with rain-water butts to feed the toilet cisterns have led to plans to expand the system to the whole property.

Light refreshments will be served and there is plenty of parking.
